I was out looking for fall wildflowers to photograph when I ran across this big grasshopper.  I almost didn’t see him because he blended in so well with the green leaves and his wings the same color as the stem he was clutching.  A rather striking fellow with his high collar and colorful spiked legs looked like he was waiting for his picture to be taken.

Taking his photo wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be. We circled around this weed quite a few times before he would sit still in one place and let me take his picture. I asked him to grin for me but he only stared at me through his slanted eyes.  I guess he thought he was going to become dinner even though I explained to him grasshoppers are not on my menu.
